Central New York’s biggest chili event, Chili-Palooza, is coming up September 21st at the Herkimer County Fair grounds. Maybe you’re debating going and one factor you’re considering is health. You’re thinking “Chili isn’t very healthy”. Well I’m here to prove to you that it is. Here’s 5 reasons Chili is good for your health.

5) Chili Is Full Of Vitamin A

A teaspoon of red chili powder meets the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin A. Vitamin A is required for night vision, and for a healthy skin. It assists the immune system, and your sense of taste. Many believe that Vitamin A helps slow aging.

4) Green Chili Pods Are Full Of Vitamin C

According to chili experts, a green chili pod has as much Vitamin C as 6 oranges. The benefits of Vitamin C include protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling. So eating a bowl of chili will make you feel ten years younger!

3) Chile Powder Is A Great Foot Warmer

Some cultures actually put chile powder in their shoes to keep their feet warm. So forget spending hundreds of dollars on heating bills, and those fancy boots. Just head down to the Herkimer Fair Grounds and ask for some Chile powder!

2) Chili Is Rich In Potassium

According to reports, Chili contains a good amount of minerals like potassium. Potassium is important for cell and body fluids that help control heart rate and blood pressure.

1) Chili Is Used As A Bug Repellent

Capsaicin, the chemical that makes chili peppers hot, also kills bugs. The chemical is poisonous to insects and will kill them if they ingest the appropriate amount. Less bugs mean less diseases traveling through the air, right?
