Central New Yorkers: How Do You Pronounce ‘Creek’? [RESULTS]
Last week, I asked Central New Yorkers to vote on whether they say creek or crick. And the results are in.
Based on 184 votes, Central New Yorkers prefer saying crick. Yes, crick is the winner.
Here's the chart:
Like I said last week, when I was growing up in Clinton, New York, everyone around me used the work crick. People always said, "Oriskany Crick." It wasn't until I was older that I heard people say creek, with the long /e/ sound.
Speaking of Clinton, I posted the poll on a Facebook page called "YOU might be from Clinton, NY if...." And after looking through the comments, overwhelmingly, people said crick.
So, there it is. People in Central New York say crick.
