* WHAT...West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

* WHERE...Northern Oneida, Yates, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Steuben, Madison and Southern Oneida Counties.

* WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

...ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TODAY...

A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop along a cold front across Western NY early this afternoon and push eastward through Central NY and Northeast PA during the mid-afternoon and early evening hours...These storms may become strong to severe.

Main threat with these storms will be strong/potentially damaging winds as wind profiles are quite strong. A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms remains...If more clearing than currently expected occurs, temperatures would be a bit warmer and instability would increase, therefore increasing the afternoon severe thunderstorm potential...Partial clearing is expected ahead of the cold front, and therefore some of the elevated winds will have the potential to mix down to the surface...Winds ahead of the front/squall line will likely gust 45-50 mph... [NWS]

Following the passage of the cold front, temperatures will plummet tonight to the mid-20s to mid-30s, with teens in northern Oneida county. Some lingering rain showers will be possible tonight, especially in Central New York. With these rapidly falling temperatures, any lingering rain showers will mix with and change to snow showers after midnight or so.
