I fell victim to this over the weekend. Make sure you're checking the bottles you're buying.

On Friday July 24th, the FDA put out a warning when it comes to hand sanitizer. Obviously, we've been using way more hand sanitizer due to worries of contracting COVID-19, so having a hand cleaner that will kill bacteria and keep you safe, is something that I think we're all interested in.

With that being said the FDA, according to ABC7 NY, said that there are 75 sanitizer products that are being recalled.

The recall is due to "methanol contamination." There are reports of short- and long-term health problems linked to methanol contamination and it could "be potentially life-threatening if ingested."

Many of the products are brands like Blumen, Assured Instant Hand, LumiSkin and Optimus. The FDA said in a statement "The agency is aware of adults and children ingesting hand sanitizer products contaminated with methanol that has led to recent adverse events including blindness, hospitalizations and death."

Methanol exposure can lead to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.

While people using these products are at risk of exposure, the FDA is more worried about young children and adults possibly accidentally ingesting the sanitizer.

The FDA asks that if you have had come in contact with these hand sanitizer products to fill out the health form on their website.
