Swimming holes.  When you hear those two words together,  your first thought is a hidden lake or pond somewhere that probably has a lonely tree beside it with a long branch that reaches so far out over the lake.  That branch probably has many ropes tied to it over the years, for the specific purchase of swinging from the bank and plunging into the cool refreshing water.

They are all over the place, you just have to find them.  We discovered Alger Falls just east of the Town of Trenton, just a couple of years ago.  It wasn't a big secret though, there were lots of people there enjoying the water.  What I love is finding the place that has little waterfalls where you can just sit and let the water fall on you while you enjoy some refreshing adult beverages.

According to purewow.com, one of seven, of the best swimming holes in the entire nation, happens to be about 10 miles outside Ithaca NY, inside Robert H. Treman State Park.  Bit of a drive, but the end reward could be fantastic.  Complete with lower falls and even a diving board.

Any place that you specifically know of?  What place do you like to go to to cool off?
