What Is A "Splash Pad?"

A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area, often in a public park, for water play that has little or no standing water. This is said to eliminate the need for lifeguards or other supervision, as there is little risk of drowning.

It's a really great way to get kids out of the house when it's really hot outside to get them not only to cool off, but for them to release a little bit of energy and get some fun in.

There's also a high likelihood that there's some public pools open in and around the same areas as well. If you're near the city of Rome, New York -- they have several public pools for community members to take advantage of during the hot summer months.

Which splash pad is your favorite? Maybe a fun summer idea is to road trip to all of the different options? Let's be honest, there isn't THAT much of a distance between them, and it gives the kids an adventure to look forward to. Maybe it's an option, or maybe we have to wait for gas prices to go down. Ugh.
