The old Kmart building in New Hartford is one step closer to be filled with a new tenant.

According to a story on UticaOD.com, officials from At Home, a home décor superstore met with the New Hartford Planning Board this past Monday, November 13 for a preliminary site plan review and approval.

If approved, this would be the third location for the store in Upstate New York and the second here in Central New York. At Home currently has stores in Syracuse and Albany.

New Hartford Town Supervisor Patrick Tyksinski says, If At Home is approved, they'll use only a section of the main building that Kmart formerly occupied. Kmart closed earlier this year after being in the Commercial Drive location since 1972.

New Hartford Town officials are still in search of other business to take over the remainder of the 120,000 square foot property. At Home would only use the 97,000 square feet of the building that Kmart used.

The rumors of At Home making New Hartford home started circulating in September.

If At Home does come to New Hartford, it would be the second home furnishing store to open in the town. HomeGoods, a discount home furnishing store recently opened less than a mile away in Sangertown Square in October.
