Motley Crue, Blink-182, Iron Maiden Lead Rock Hall’s ‘Vote Your Choice’ Fan Vote
In the past, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination process has come under scrutiny, but organizers have attempted to give the fans more of a voice with the annual fan vote. But could fans also have a say in who initially makes the ballot? The Rock Hall's "Vote Your Choice" interactive section at the museum might actually give those behind the nomination process a better idea of who the fans want to see in.
Since its installation for this year, more than 80,000 votes have been cast at the museum, with Motley Crue currently leading the way with 3,152 votes according to an Instagram post (seen below) that surfaced this past weekend. You can see that pop-punk icons Blink-182 follow at 2,217 votes, while metal masters Iron Maiden are third in voting at 1,771.
'90s alternative favorites Dave Matthews Band and cultural pop icon Cher help to round out the Top 8 with classic rockers Styx and Boston and alterna-heroes Weezer.
It remains to be seen if the "Vote Your Choice" options make the cut for this year's ballot, but it definitely provides a look at what the fans want.
Earlier this year, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx revealed during a chat with Kerrang! that the band were told that they would never get in, so he's not held out hope that they eventually will be inducted.
Meanwhile, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson stated in 2018 that he would likely refuse the honor should the band be among those chosen for induction. "I'm really happy we're not there and I would never want to be there. If we're ever inducted, I will refuse — they won't bloody be having my corpse in there," he was quoted as saying in an interview with the Jerusalem Post.
Incoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chairman John Sykes recently stated his commitment to matching "a spirit that connects with young people.” It's also his desire to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony to air live on HBO rather than the edited version that typically airs a few weeks following the ceremony.
