It's that time of year when everyone is getting ready for the holiday party but it wouldn't be complete without some or all of these Utica traditions.

I just got an invitation to celebrate Christmas and I think what's a party in Utica if you don't include these unique tasty treats from Turkey Joints to roasted chestnuts.

1. Shrimp Cocktail

A party is not complete without iced shrimp cocktail from your favorite store of choice, especially in Utica be sure to call ahead.

2. Turkey Joints

I always find something different and unique for a Hostess Gift from like Turkey Joints, a Utica legend and a must have for any celebration.

3. Half Moons

No one can get away from the Utica tradition of our Half Moons, not the black and white cookie, a half moon. Holland Farms have the originals and still make the best half moons, don't forget to get an order of jelly buns while you're at it or you'll kick yourself if you don't.

4. Homemade Sausage Roll

Some of the best Italian food are sausage roles in Utica, especially those made by Daniele Imports. However, at this time of year it's best to place an order ahead or you'll get left out as they sell these as fast as they can make them.

5. Chesnuts to roast (Very Italian)

Roasted chestnuts plain and simply are a must have or you don't want to show your face in Utica. It's very Italian, this is one of those cases where you need to call ahead or you'll lose out.

6. Utica Greens

I prefer the Greens at Georgio's. In all of Central New York, they're known for their greens or you can get the classic Utica Greens at any number of places but these are the best in my opinion.

7. Tomato Pie

A great tomato pie from Daniele Imports. This place, I happen to think this is the best tomato pie bar none in Utica.

8. Chicken Riggies

When I'm in the mood and craving riggies there's only one place to go and that's in East Utica to Chesterfields it is simply the best

9. Wine

A good bottle of wine from Central New York wine producers: 3 bottles, one red, one  white and one sweet white -  All available from Seneca Wines in New Hartford.
