If you didn't grow up in the '70s the term "Acid Rain" may be new. It was blamed for devastating rivers, lakes, and forests from air pollution. One of the hardest-hit areas was the higher elevations in the Adirondack and Catskills. Now comes word of the first recovery of an Adirondack Lake.

The timing seems odd with the number of worldwide environmental protests occurring, but New York'S DEC reports finding Brook Trout in Lake Colden for the 1st time in decades. The lake and its tributaries had been deemed "Fishless" after surveys caught nothing in 1987, 2004, and 2011..

While conducting water samples in a tributary of the lake this past August, young Brook Trout were observed. Fish and WIldlife experts followed with nets and shocking equipment in September to survey the lake. They found 3 generations of the fish alive and flourishing. It's the first high elevation lake in the Adirondacks to host a sustained fish population after being declared, fishless.
