Top 5 Golf Courses In CNY For Highschoolers

Our intern Josh Gubbins of Westmoreland is a big fan of golfing. He put together a list of his top 5 golf courses to check out. Here's the courses he would recommend for fellow high school students.

5) Skenandoa Club of Clinton, Clinton

This golf course is 18 holes. When the weather is nice, it’s a lovely course to play. This course is located in Clinton. It requires a driving range across the street if practice is needed to get ready for your round for 9 or 18 holes. This course has many trees around the area to make the course increasingly difficult. The greens are usually soft when you land. This is a great course to play at and I recommend to try it for its many tricks.

4) Twins Ponds Golf & Country Club, New York Mills

This course is 18 holes. This course is a good challenge, each par 4s usually are long distanced which makes the holes difficult to play on. This course is named twins ponds for the reason because 3 holes on the Back 9 has a big pond extended through each hole. The green are unpredictable, it mostly depends on how the weather is determining if your golf ball will stay on or off the green. This is an amazing golf course to play at and if you’re up for a good challenge, Twin Ponds is a recommended course for that job.

3) The Golf Club of Newport, West Canada/Newport

This course is 18 holes. This course is great to play at. It has a big club house when you walk in. It also has a driving range to the left of the first hole so you’re able to get practice in before you start. This course has lots of hills, lots of sand bunkers in front of and behind the greens. The greens are soft and long so your ball won’t roll off once it lands. This course just like the two before number 3 is a tough course to play at.

2) Kanon Valley Country Club, Canastota/Oneida

This course is 18 holes. This is a beautiful course to play at when it’s a lovely day to go out and play a round of golf. This course mainly has trees along the left and right side of each hole which makes the difficulty increase. The club house serves great food. The greens are usually soft or hard depending on the weather. It also has a great driving range right along the left side of hole 1 so if practice is ever needed then it’ll be right there for you. This is a recommended course for anyone, so if it’s a great day with great weather, go out and play at Kanon Valley.

1) Barker Brook Golf Club, Oriskany Falls/Waterville

This course is 18 holes. This course is very difficult to play at. The greens are hard so if you want your ball to stay on it, land it before the green. The trees are everywhere, left and right of the fairway, over the hole. What makes this course the best to play at is you never know what to expect from this course. The amount of difficulty this course contains is a large amount. If you want to think about playing in a course that is very difficult to do well in, and to also enjoy for its lovely views from a few holes, I highly recommend playing at Barker Brook.
