'Spirit in the Sky' singer Norman Greenbaun is in critical condition after a crash in Santa Rosa that left a motorcyclist dead on Saturday.

Norman Greenbaum was a passenger in a 2002 Subaru Outback when the driver did not see a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle heading her way according to CBS SF Bay Area. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor but the accident is still being investigated.

CHP officials say:

The 20 year old motorcyclist collided head-on into the right side of the Subaru and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, a 20-year-old Sonoma County resident, suffered critical injuries as did Norman Greenbaum.

Norman Greenbaum wrote and performed 'Spirit in the Sky'. It was released in 1969 and hit No. 3 in 1970. It sold more than 2 million copies and has frequently been used in commercials and movies, most recently last summer’s blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy.

My favorite soundtrack with 'Spirit in the Sky' is Remember the Titans. We hope he has a speedy recovery.
