The New York State Fair has added another Senior Day due to the weather.

The third day of free attendance for adults age 60 and older has been added to the NYS Fair. The third day, Thursday, August 30, is intended to allow seniors to enjoy the traditional free day at the Fair on a day when the heat is expected to be lower.

“High heat and humidity can be troublesome for everyone, but particularly for seniors. We are happy to offer an extra day of free admission to make sure our senior fairgoers get to enjoy a fun—and safe—day at the Fair,” said Troy Waffner, Acting Fair Director.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures on Tuesday, the second of two Senior Days, to peak at 90 degrees. The heat index, which factors in humidity to come up with a measure of how hot it feels, is predicted to go above 100 degrees. On days such as those, it is critical to drink a lot of water and stay in the shade as much as possible.

The Fair is purchasing additional misting stations to provide a cool spray of water for all fairgoers. The Fair also reminds people that they can bring water bottles from home and keep them filled for free at water filling stations available in most buildings on the Fairgrounds.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 22 to September 3, 2018. The Fair's mission, reflected in its theme, "FIND YOUR GREAT," is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.
