Beware!  A person who has identified himself as "Lieutenant Richardson" has been calling Oneida County residents demanding cash in exchange for preventing a family member from being arrested on a federal subpoena. The Oneida County Sheriff's department says they do not employ a Lt. Richardson nor do they request money to prevent a person from being arrested.

The sheriff's office warns anyone against giving personal information over the telephone.  If you do get a call from the jail telling you that a family member has been arrested, you should call the Oneida County Correctional Facility to verify that information.

The Syracuse.com website reported that there is no information on how many people have fallen victim to this scam.
