A community is mourning the sudden loss of a beloved Mt Markham middle school counselor. Schools will be closed to give staff, students and friends the time to attend her funeral.

Jessica Cooper passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 5 due to an existing heart condition. She was 42 years old.

"The school community was shocked by the sudden death of middle school counselor, Jessica Cooper," said Superintendent of Schools, Paul Berry. "So school community members can attend Jessica's funeral service, there will be no school on Tuesday, November 12."

Cooper's mission was to help every child, and she opened her heart and soul to achieving her goal. "The students and teachers will miss their Miss Cooper who will not be there to help them navigate through middle school, but they will remember she is watching over them in spirit," the family shared in Cooper's obituary.

Calling hours and visitation are Monday, November 11th at Eannance Funeral Home on South Street in Utica from 4pm-7pm. The funeral will be held Tuesday at St Anthony and St Agnes Church on Tilden Avenue in Utica at noon.

Cooper's family has created a Life Tribute page for the community to share their memories.

"Jessica ALWAYS had a kind word or compliment when we crossed paths at school. In many ways she was the glue that held us all together. You were loved my so many. Gone too soon but in your short time here on earth you made such a huge impact," shared Peggy Z.

"A beautiful light has been extinguished much too soon. Jessica's smile and laughter uplifted all who were lucky enough to know her," wrote Mindy Tillapaugh.
