Mets Thump Brewers, Score 10 In Fourth

The Mets hadn't scored 10 runs in a game all season, but on Saturday their plodding offense busted out for nine hits and 10 runs in the fourth inning en route to a 14-1 thumping of the Brewers at Citi Field.

None of the nine hits were bigger than Wilmer Flores' grand slam off Milwaukee's Matt Garza, a bomb that chased the right-hander from the game after he allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

Curtis Granderson had three hits, two runs scored and a pair of RBI, while Michael Cuddyer had two hits, scored twice and drove in two. Jacob deGrom (4-4) had a solid outing and was better at the plate, going for 3-3 with an RBI and run scored, then tossing six innings of one-run ball and striking out six.

The win ended a five-game losing streak for the Mets, whose struggles of late have seen their NL East lead shrink to just a half a game. The rubber match is Sunday (1:10 p.m.) with Noah Syndergaard making just his second big league start against Milwaukee's Wily Peralta.
