Chris Farley was the original voice of Shrek and had more than 80% of it completed before his untimely death. Reddit has a story about the Chris Farley version being leaked with audio and story boards. .

According to a interview on Yahoo with Kevin Farley (brother of Chris):

Farley was originally cast as the titular green ogre in the 2001 blockbuster Shrek, and, according to his brother, Kevin Farley, Chris had recorded nearly all of his character’s dialogue before he died of a drug overdose in 1997...“Originally the Shrek character was a little bit more like Chris, like a humble, bumbling innocent guy,” said Kevin Farley, who appears in and executive-produced the new documentary about the life and career of his brother, I Am Chris Farley.

It's very obvious when watching the interview with Kevin Farley that he harbors no animosity about Michael Meyers ultimately becoming the voice of Shrek.

The new documentary "I Am Chris Farley" will air on Spike TV August 10th and then VOD on August 11th. Rolling Stone says the film features interviews with many of Farley's closest peers from his SNL era – Adam Sandler, David Spade, Mike Myers, Bob Odenkirk – as well as Farley's own family. I Am Chris Farley is also structured around archival footage of Farley onstage and in character, including his beloved alter ego Matt Foley, which Rolling Stone named as SNL's greatest skit ever.

Chris Farley's death is often compared to that of his SNL idol John Belushi, who also died at age 33 of an accidental drug overdose consisting of cocaine and heroin.
