A cold front sweeping into CNY brings a period of rain gradually changing to scattered lake effect snow showers with gusty winds.

CNY will see sustained winds at15-25 mph, with gusts up to around 40 mph...at this time NWS says wind speeds will be just below advisory levels for most locations.

The NWS out of Binghamton has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook:

A sharp cold front will bring colder temperatures, scattered snow showers and gusty northwest winds this afternoon. Expect sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to around 40 mph at times, especially over the higher terrain. These winds could snap small branches, make driving difficult for high profile vehicles and even cause isolated power outages. Use caution and monitor the latest weather forecast.

CNY Hazardous Weather Outlook for this weekend:

A storm will track from the midwest to off the Middle Atlantic coast Saturday night and Sunday and then eventually off the New England coast Sunday night. This storm will bring a mix of rain, snow, and some freezing rain to a large part of south-central New York, northeast Pennsylvania and the Catskills Saturday night and Sunday. The mixed precipitation will taper off by Sunday evening. The potential exists for up to 2 inches of snow mainly over the Poconos and Catskills with an inch or less elsewhere in south-central New York and northeast Pennsylvania. Many areas could see a brief period of freezing rain as well. Travel could be impacted Saturday night and Sunday especially over the higher terrain and in the Poconos and Catskills. If you are planning to travel during this time, keep informed of the weather.
