Food insecurity is happening right now in central New York. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says while hunger refers to physical discomfort, food insecurity is a lack of money to supply enough food for an active, healthy life in a household.

The Utica Food Pantry is dedicated to assisting those in need by alleviating their immediate pain and problems regarding food insecurity and moving them toward self-sufficiency and financial independence. They are open Monday-Wednesday-Thursday 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at 729 Broadway St., Utica, NY 13502 or by calling (315) 724-6000.

The Compassion Coalition is self-sustaining through its grocery store, Bargain Grocery.

This means that as a non-profit we do not rely on any government grants or ongoing funding for any operational costs. This allows us to meet needs that would otherwise not be met in our community by other non-profits, schools, or emergency food pantries due to strict grant regulations. [Compassion Coalition]

Income from Bargain Grocery allows for more food accessibility in a food desert, an area where access to affordable, healthy food options (especially fresh fruits and vegetables) is restricted or nonexistent due to the absence of grocery stores within a reasonable distance.

Ninety-six cents of every dollar is given to Compassion Coalition stays in central New York because of its revolutionary non-profit model. Please consider donating today.
