Here's something you don't hear every day. Auburn native Kohlton Pascal gave his American Idol golden ticket back.

Pascal has decided to take a year to mature, while creating albums and hitting the road, according to Syracuse.com.

Pascal says he wasn't ready for the spotlight. 'It definitely rocked me a little bit to have all that publicity at once,' he explained.

Kohlton Pascal, who never stays in the same place for more than 2 or 3 days, was headed to Hollywood after his original song caught the judges ears. Although Keith Urban had mixed feelings. ‘I really like your talent. I love the sound of your voice. I was interested in what you were singing. Visually not so much. Audibly, if it was on a record, I would buy it and that would be on my playlist. How far can you go in this competition? I don’t know, but I really like your talent,‘ he said.

Pascal's journey didn't go far when he refused to change. 'There's no way in hell I'm going to bend for anybody like that,' he tells Syracuse.com.

We may see Pascal on another Idol audition in the future but he has no regrets. 'Actually, it gives me a lot more time to work on my local music thing. I've been booking like a mad man for the last couple weeks' he says.
