In the last 100 plus years, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival has grown into a premier event for the whole family. The Winter Carnival is hosting two parades one for the kids and one for adults, three fireworks displays, various exhibits, Arctic Golf, a Curling Competition, Frisbee Games, and more.

The 10 day Saranac Lake Winter carnival started in 1897 as a group of volunteer people got together and started the celebration to break up the long winter and also to boost the spirits of the local tuberculosis patients'.

You probably didn't know that Saranac Lake was logging community first and a wilderness research area and cure center for tuberculosis, the winter carnival was started to boost patients spirits.

The family-friendly event has stayed pretty much the same over the years with the Ice Palace, Gala and kiddie parades, games,/exhibits, celebrations, concerts, and fireworks. this year the Carnival runs February 2-11.

Cape-Air fireworks on Saturday the 3rd at the Ice Palace officially open the 10-day carnival followed by AMA Torchlight Skiing fireworks at Mount Pisgah Ski Center. The fireworks close the Carnival on the 11th with the Guide  Boat Realty " storming the palace" closing fireworks on the 11th at 8 pm There is more than 15 sports competition, most will require you to register ahead of time.
