The pandemic has made it hard for all of us: not being able to do the things we love, not being able to visit our families. With the difficult circumstances come the need to adapt to the change. In today's word, the word "virtual" is one that many are thankful for. That includes the family of Josephine Lovett, who turned 104 years old on Sunday.

Lovett lives in Liverpool, in the general Syracuse area, and her family realized they wouldn't be able to celebrate her birthday like they have in years past. For this year, they celebrated virtually because Onondaga Center, the nursing home Lovett lives in, currently still can’t accept visitors.

So, they gathered over Zoom to celebrate her life. According to CNY Central, Lovett was a trailblazing professional in the Syracuse community years ago, including as a clothing buyer for Sears Roebuck on S. Salina Street and being an active volunteer and leader of the CNY Humane Society.

As a thank you for all that they've done during the pandemic, her family sent cakes to Onondaga Center where for the residents and all the staff.

Soon, the family will be able to visit as New York has released new guidelines for nursing home visitation. They'll be back to visiting her in person in no time.

Days Away From 98th Birthday, WWII Vet Gets High School Diploma

It doesn't matter how old you are, you are always capable of setting goals and dreams to accomplish for yourself. Just ask 97-year-old Harold Williams from Valatie, in Columbia County, NY.

When Williams was in 8th grade, he had to drop out of school to help his family make ends meet and then he made the decision to enlist in the Army. This makes him one of the many soldiers to fight on the frontlines of D-Day.

"I didn’t want to work in the arsenal; I wanted to join my buddies,” Williams told News10. “Everybody else was going and I wanted to go, too.”

Fast forward to 2021, and Williams was given a moment he'll never forget, days from his 98h birthday.

Surrounded by all the people he loves: friends, family, and fellow service men and women, the 62nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion member received his high school diploma from the Ichabod Crane Central School.
