The Westmoreland Parent Teacher Organization is stepping up for students in a big way.

The cost of school supplies at the beginning of each school year can be a financial burden for many families. In the Westmoreland Central School District, that burden was lifted by a group of committed parents and teachers.

The PTO announced that it is providing school supplies for every student in their district in grades K-6 for the 2019-2020 school year. The only things parents will need to provide is a backpack.

On Facebook, parents from Westmoreland shared their gratitude, calling the gesture "amazing" and "awesome" and giving thanks to the PTO for making it happen. Amy Vanderhoof Bowen, who is the Treasurer and manages the Facebook page, says the PTO had to do a lot of fundraising to cover the cost of the supplies. They haven't gotten the final costs yet. "We realized that for parents, purchasing school supplies is not only stressful , but it’s definitely a financial burden. We are thrilled that our hard work fundraising paid off and we are able to help out in this way," says Amy.

Our hat is off to the PTO for making things a little bit easier for the parents and students of Westmoreland.
