A malicious link being sent around will freeze your iPhone even if you don't click on it.

A bug that lies in the link preview of iMessage lets anyone send this malicious link that will crash your phone.

According to BuzzFeed, the bug called “chaiOS,” was originally discovered by software developer Abraham Masri, he alerted Apple but received no response so then he posted it publicly.

What's so scary is you don't even have to open the link. If the link is sent to you and it just sits there in iMessage then it's too late. The damage is done.

Masri tells Buzzfeed the bug affects iOS versions 10.0 through 11.2.5 beta 5 and can also affect Mac computers. He has not tested the vulnerability on the latest beta, iOS 11.2.5 beta 6.

If your iPhone has crashed due to chaiOS you may have to reset your iOS back to factory settings. This will erase all your contacts, photos, everything.

BuzzFeed has more information on the malicious code.
