The Utica Comets spanked the Toronto Marlies with a solid 3-1 score Sunday at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Just four minutes left in the first period and Mason Marchment put the Marlies up  1 - 0 by putting a rebound past Thatcher Demko. Baun and Aaltonen were credited with the assist. Tanner tied the game at one with 2:43 left in the first period. Brise and Carcone were credited with the assists for the Comets on what turned out to be MacMaster's first professional goal. 18 seconds later, MacEwen fired a slap shot past Marlies goaltender Pickard to take a 2 - 1 lead.

Patrick Wiercioch extended the Comets lead to 3 -1 at the 13:59 mark of the second period, Cam Darcy got the assist.

Demko and the Comets defense effectively shut down the Marlies and closed the door and the game on the high-powered Toronto offense.

Demko was a force to be reckoned with 38 saves, the Comets power play went 0 - 4 and the penalty kill did not allow a single goal in five attempts.

The Comets are back on the ice Friday and in action against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The puck drops 7 pm at the Adirondack Bank Center, Go Comets.
