One of the most sought-after basketball recruits for the class of 2016 has changed his mind about where he'd like to play college hoops.

Tyus Battle, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Edison, NJ officially declared his intent to play for Syracuse University on Monday, ESPN reports.

The site reports Battle - ranked in the top 30 of ESPN's Top 100 recruiting database for 2016 - was headed to Michigan, but said he had rushed his decision when making a pledge to the Wolverines in May:

"I wanted to be closer to home," Battle said of his decision to pick Syracuse. "They told me I could be a versatile guard who could have the ball in my hands a lot."

Battle reportedly also had offers on the table from several high profile colleges including Duke, Ohio State, Louisville and Notre Dame.
