Popular North Country NY Ski Mountain Expanding to Slopeside Resort
West Mountain has been part of the North Country in Queensbury since 1961 and there are big plans to expand it into a slopeside resort. There are a few things that need to be done first through town officials and the approval of the Town Board later this month. But the Planned Unit Development needs to approve the whole thing and the hope is that they will by the end of the year.
Just recently, West Mountain has put fifteen million dollars into upgrades. They have fixed the infrastructure of the lodge, snowmaking system, and chair lifts have been replaced according to the Daily Gazette. Just recently, they used explosives to flatten out the top of West Mountain's bunny hill.
The plan is to make West Mountain into a resort with plans of a one hundred seventy-four mix of luxury condos, duplexes, and custom-built houses. They also plan to build a sixty to eighty-room hotel and conference center, a spa, infinity pool, and athletic club. There will be a plaza with restaurants, stores, and a ski shop. Plus there is a new lodge planned.
Getting approval and completing all of these renovations will be essential in turning West Mountain into a slopeside resort destination. The owners know that the location of West Mountain is key to tourism. They are located right off of the Northway and in line with Vermont resort destinations. They are also a ski destination for locals.
The renovations will cost more than fifty million dollars and could be upwards of seventy-five million. Only time will tell if all get approved.
