The Perfect New York ‘Water Falls’ Road Trip

New York state has some of the most picturesque waterfalls in America. There are so many cascading wonders to choose from, and thanks to onlyinyourstate.com, we've got a perfectly mapped out journey to some of the most awesome waterfalls around..

They've listed Niagra Falls as their first stop on the list, but geographically speaking, it probably makes more sense to start your journey at one of the other destinations. However, to keep things simple, we'll follow the road they've mapped out, and you can decide for yourself where to begin.

1. Niagra Falls

This natural beauty likes to speak for herself. What exactly is she saying? "Aren't I amazing?!" To which all of America answers a resounding "Yes!"

2. Eternal Flame Falls

Water is not always effective when attempting to extinguish a flame. In fact, this one of a kind waterfall located near Buffalo, New York is flammable.

At the base of Eternal Flame Falls, a natural gas is emitted, creating the opportunity for anyone visiting to strike up a small but mighty flame. While the flame itself remains visible all year long, it oftentimes needs to be re-lit.

3. Middle Falls

USA Today named Letchworth State Park, the "best in the nation; there are several reasons it earned this title, and three of those reasons happen to be waterfalls.

The upper, middle, and lower are all breath taking and gorgeous, but the middle falls seems to be every ones favorite.

4. Watkins Glen State Park

Where else in New York can you see 19 waterfalls? Nowhere. Enjoy a scenic walk along the gorge trail and don't forget your binoculars; there's plenty of beauty to appreciate here.

5.Taughannock Falls

Get ready to take lots of pictures, Taughannock's 215 foot waterfall is one of the highest  east of the Rockies.

The Park also features tent and trailer sites, cabins, picnic areas, beach swimming, fishing, playground areas, a marina launching site, ice-skating, sledding, cross-country skiing and an annual summer concert series.

6. Buttermilk Falls

The ultimate camping adventure awaits you here. Buttermilk Falls has swimming holes, wildlife, plenty of hiking trails, and oh yeah...waterfalls!

7. Chittenango Falls

Pack a lunch and bask in the beautiful surroundings. Chittenango Falls is home to a 170 foot waterfall.

We've toured this place several times, and every time we return, we're blown away all over again. According to NYSParks.com this place only gets better with age:

400 million year-old bedrock is responsible for this scenic feature. An interesting variety of both plants and wildlife may be found along the trails.
