Update: One Dead after Hunting Related Shooting in Frankfort

(Updated at 4:10 p.m.) State Police have confirmed a local man was accidentally shot and killed while deer hunting in the Town of Frankfort on Sunday morning.

Police confirmed the deceased is 20-year-old Joshua Morgan of Newport.

The shooting occurred in a wooded area off Route 5-S near Dyke Road (east of Utica), according to police. Morgan was part of a large hunting party, police say.

The 2019 regular hunting season which includes the use of shotguns, opened on Saturday and continues through December 8th.

Police say the investigation is continuing but the shooting, which occurred at about 8:45 a.m., is considered accidental.
