This is our new feature called 'Obscure Song Monday.' Each week we spotlight a song from the 70's or 80's that was a big hit on the charts, but over time, seemed to have been forgotten about. This week we feature the 1979 #1 song Pop Muzic. It was written, produced and performed by Englishman "M", who's real name is Robin Scott. According to songfacts, Scott wrote and produced this song for his 1979 debut album, "New York, London, Paris, Munich". The name of the album comes from a line in Pop Muzic and reflects Scott's world travels.

Although Pop Muzic is often referred to as a New Wave song, it was one of the first singles in the New Wave genre to go to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

By the time MTV signed on the air in 1981, Pop Muzic had already run it's course on the charts, but it became one of the networks most popular videos.  It reached #1 in 10  countries including here in the United States and went to #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 End of Year chart for 1980.
