After New Allegations, Cuomo Says "There is No Way I Resign"

Governor Andrew Cuomo appears determined to remain in office despite additional allegations of inappropriate conduct with women.

During a telephone conference call with reporters Sunday, Cuomo said anybody can "make an allegation in a democracy." He said the matter should await the findings of the investigation being overseen by state Attorney General Letitia James.

The governor bluntly said "there is no way I resign." He said "the system is based on due process."

Cuomo said he would not be distracted by the allegations that have been made by several women in recent days. He said he would focus on working with legislative leaders to finalize a state budget and continue efforts to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

The governor suggested those calling for his resignation are politically motivated. He said "there is politics in politics."

Cuomo said new allegations of inappropriate behavior have come from a woman who has been "a longtime political adversary of mine."

The governor declined to address specific questions about the allegations that are to be reviewed by the attorney general.
