Upstate New York Amber Alert Update – A Whirlwind of Terror
Update: According to New York State Police, the Amber Alert has been canceled as both children have been found safe.
Original Story: New information has been released regarding the kidnapping of a brother and sister from a foster home in Greece, a suburb of Rochester.
Greece Police say that at 8:50 p.m. on Monday, January 18, three-year-old Shekeria Cash and her five-year-old brother, Dimitri Cash were kidnapped from their foster home in what can only be described as a whirlwind of terror.
Police say that the kidnappers, two men, literally smashed their way into the foster home in which the brother and sister were staying. When the downstairs front window was smashed in, the foster mother let out a scream and two of the seven foster children in the home ran from upstairs to see what was wrong. All of the children in the foster home are under the age of 10.
The kidnappers then used duct tape to secure the two children and the foster mother together. Then, they made their way upstairs, picked out Shekeria and Dimitri, fleeing the scene in the homeowner’s van.
The van was located only three miles from where the kidnapping took place. The kidnappers and children were not inside. Police believe that the van was dumped and a second getaway vehicle was used.
According to police, Shekeria and Dimitri have been in foster care for the last two years and there is a court case pending. Greece Police Chief Drew Forsythe said the police believe that the kidnapping of the children was planned and targeted and that the children are believed to be in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death.
Three-year-old Shekeria has braided black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing panda pajamas. Five-year-old Dimitri has short, black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing firetruck or dinosaur pajamas.
The kidnapping suspects have been described by police as two black men, each standing approximately 6 feet tall. Both men were wearing flannel shirts, Dickies work pants, black knit hats, and black ski masks. One of the suspects has facial hair.
