Macy's announced the company will be closing as many as 40 stores around the country in response to sluggish sales at mall locations.

Fortunue.com notes the impending closures are a direct response to more shoppers going online than to brick-and-mortar mall locations. Macy's said in a press release that 30 to 40 stores will be closing in early 2016. Those locations have not been determined.

Central New York Macy's locations include Sangertown Square in New Hartford. Destiny USA in Syracuse and the Great Northern Mall in Clay.
