Probably the very very very last person that anyone would ever want to ask if Charlie Brown is a bad influence on our kids, is this Central New York midday radio show host we know as Chip Douglas.  My wife stumbled upon an article addressing how some feel how Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang, might be considered to be a poor influence, considering how most of the characters pick on Charlie Brown and call him dumb, stupid, or blockhead.  With all of the attention we are putting on bullying and how better to prevent it in our schools, we have come to recommending a ban of The Peanuts Gang, to provide some remedy to this growing problem?  Really?  The Chipster has been a huge fan (as if you couldn't tell from some of my other blogs) of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts ever since I was old enough to read.  My basement is leveled with a great number of totes containing years and years of "Peanuts" memorabilia.  I have the movies, books, games, and tons of other stuff that will one day see the light of day in their own room once the kids are grown and I no longer fear destruction of these treasures.  Am I obsessed?  I hardly think so, but when someone comes out talking about how Charlie Brown programming does not send a positive message to their kids.  Once again, really?  The blog I'm referring to mentions that there is nothing of value in any of the shows.  First of all, I'm not really sure that The Charlie Brown programs were necessarily meant for younger children, i.e. 5 and 2.  Have you ever really listened to the dialogue in one of these specials.  Like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and other cartoons today, just because they are cartoons, doesn't mean they are right for all ages.  The messages in these programs, in my opinion are absolutely harmless.  Kids of all ages have been watching these shows for many many years and I'm hoping they will watch for many many years to come.  Can you blame these shows for the types of bullying we see today?  I hardly think so.  Long live Charlie Brown and long live Peanuts!  Who's with me?  If you would like to read the whole blog and maybe get as steamed as I did about it, read it here and feel free to add your input.  http://blogs.babble.com/kid-scoop/2012/10/20/its-time-to-retire-charlie-brown/
