An popular outdoor stairway in Ilion has been closed to the public since late last year.   The poor condition of the steps at the landmark prompted the village to close and barricade the stairway that rises from Otsego Street to Remington Avenue.

Now, a resident of the village is looking for approval to repair the stairway.  The Herkimer Times Telegram reports that Bill Richards of Walz Engineering says that he and Charles Walz would donate their time to repair the steps.

Richards will meet with the Ilion village board this week to present his plan.  He is hoping for approval to go ahead with the repair project.
