Hear Ghost Stories At Candlelight Ghost Tour in Cooperstown

Looking to be spooked this Halloween? The Cooperstown Candlelight Ghost Tours tell ghost stories as well as the history of Cooperstown.

The Cooperstown Candlelight Ghost Tours make six haunted stops in Cooperstown.

• The Baseball Hall of Fame
• The Christ Episcopal Church graveyard
• Byberry Cottage (House on River Street)
• Greencrest (house on River Street)
• Pomeroy Place (House on River Street)
• Lake Otsego (Once dubbed The Haunted Lake)

The picture above is Greencrest, a Victorian house that has drawn the comparison to Norman Bates’ house in the 1961 Hitchcock film, Psycho. It's been said to be haunted by the ghost of Jenny Cooper Worthington, a niece of James Fenimore Cooper.

Here is Byberry Cottage, which is an enormous mansion on River Street in Cooperstown, said to be haunted by ghosts of the Cooper families.

tells us:

Our tours combine the true ghost stories of Cooperstown (the stories are not made up) with the actual history of the village. We discuss William Cooper (the village founder); his famous son, author James Fenimore Cooper; and other key members of the Cooper and Pomeroy families. The ghost stories include stories of Cooper family slaves, acts of levitation, a haunting portrait, and a curse that has been placed on Hyde Hall (located on the northeastern shore of Lake Otsego).

Tours are on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 7 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Reservations are required and can be made at  607-547-8070 or bmarkusen@stny.rr.com.
