Hail, Thunderstorms and Humidity Coming to Central New York
Some extreme weather is anticipated for the beginning of August in Central New York.
This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for CNY
DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.
Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will move through the area
this afternoon and evening. Storms may contain gusty winds and hail
during this time period. Locally heavy rainfall with thunderstorms
may lead to isolated flooding of small streams, creeks and poor
drainage areas.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday
afternoon through Friday night. Locally heavy rainfall and isolated
flooding of smaller streams, creeks and poor drainage areas will be
possible Thursday afternoon through Friday night. Areas that have
already had heavy rainfall in the past week, will be more vulnerable.
Main concerns according to the National Weather Service (NWS), are chances for thunderstorms with at least isolated threats for gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall
A warm front will finish lifting through the region wednesday morning, with continued showers-embedded thunder. However, behind the warm front, a moist outherly flow will continue to advect moisture northward into the region Wednesday through Wednesday night. A cold front will also be located across the eastern Great Lakes. This will lead to the development of scattered showers and storms in the mid-afternoon through
evening hours. Another boundary... is a culprit for development of a second area of showers and storms to develop. Thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rain with high PW values around 2 inches.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to stick around this week. The heavy rainfall could cause flooding of smaller streams, creeks and poor drainage areas Wednesday through Friday. Areas that have already had heavy rainfall in the past week will be more vulnerable.
