Get Spooked in a Historical 165-Year-Old ‘Haunted Mansion’ in Utica

History and horror meet at a 165-year-old 'haunted' mansion in Central New York. Are you brave enough to enter?

The Landmarks Society of Utica is hosting 'Haunted Mansion' tours of #1 Rutger Park. The tours will wind throughout the mansion "themed around John Munn and his family - the home's original stewards. The plot twists and turns through a story of family drama and a home inhabited by some protective spirits." Prepare to be scared.

The tours take place on October 18th and 19th, beginning at 7pm and departing every 30 minutes. There is limited availability. Tickets are $15 each, and includes the tour, plus a reception with food and live entertainment in Mansion #3, next door.

The mansion was built in 1854 "for John Munn, a banker who actually made his fortune in Mississippi. Munn, who returned to Utica with sacks of money and a southern wife, gained a reputation for entertaining in a lavish "southern style". Later occupants included Samuel Remington (whose company supplied pistols for the Union Army in the Civil War) and John Devereux (mayor of Utica - 1840 /co-founder of the Savings Bank of Utica). In 1952 the building did duty as the Dowling Nursing Home. In 2004 the building became vacant until the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica purchased it in 2008," according to the Landmarks Society.
