Frankfort’s Unsolved Murder Case
It was believed that Lucy Dade Forrester kept an amount of cash hidden somewhere in her Frankfort, New York variety store. If there was money to be found, it was either in the store or upstairs in the 2nd floor apartment where Lucy lived alone. However, in February of 1964, someone entered Dade's Variety on Litchfield Street who was apparently looking for that money. Whether they found it, no one knows. The store was found ransacked with the body of the 69-year-old store's owner inside. She had been beaten and strangled.
New York State Police believe robbery was the motive in the murder of Forrester. According to their reports, the woman was known to come downstairs from her apartment and open the store if someone knocked after hours.
All that is known is that Ms. Forrester was alive on the evening of February 19th, but dead early the following day. This murder has gone unsolved for the past 53 years, but the case is not closed. State Police are asking for anyone with information to contact the Troop D Major Crimes unit at 315-366-6003.
