Did you know New York was the first state in the US to require automobiles be registered? In 1901, drivers had to make their own plates to put on their cars with their initials. Right around the same time, America's first movie theatre opened in 1902. Filmmaking and autos have walked (er, driven) hand in hand ever since the very beginning.

The Empire State has been featured in too many movies to count, and some of these legendary pictures have created some legendary vehicles in the process. Sometimes the license plates on the cars make them easier to identify, give exposition about the character behind the wheel, or can even be a whole part of the plot.
