I don't know about you but it seems that policy changes daily in Washington. Sometimes hourly depending on the content of the tweet. The target is currently LGBT soldiers.

Full disclosure, I am a former active duty Marine. I was assigned to the 4th TNK Bat. Miramar, San Diego, California. I was on a combination active and reserve duty for most of the Vietnam conflict from 1968 to 1973. We were fortunate we were not activated. What saved us was our tanks. They were too heavy to use in Vietnam, they would sink in the mud and the Army already had armor on site. Our unit was held in reserve and never called up. The troops in Vietnam were troops that were drafted unlike today's all volunteer soldiers. There is no draft, our soldiers are in uniform because they want to be.

Now the President wants to discharge all of the LGBT soldiers. I keep hearing just how many troops that is exactly. I've heard a number on the low side of 11,000 and the high of 15,000. We have dedicated soldiers that have been well trained and spent time in rank with additional training and now the President wants to discharge all of these troops because they are LGBT.

The question of cost keeps coming up but some people in government seem to forget we have spent untold millions on training all these troops. Remember these troops volunteered, no one forced our current military to sign up and most cases they continue to sign up for additional tours of duty.

Mr. President, if you decide to discharge 15,000 active duty personnel you will have to find away to get enough troops to cover the ground those discharged troops have done during their tour of duty.

This clearly seems to be a case of biting one's nose off to spite one's face. Just a thought!
