The day the music died.  Maybe you remember it?  It was Feb 3, 1959.  I missed it this year, maybe other things on my mind.  The date always sticks in my mind every year when the 3rd rolls around, just like Dec 7, and Sep 11.  You think about what happened that day and all of the turmoil friends and family experienced.  The day that a plane took off from a small Iowa airport and was never heard from again.  On that plane…Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and the pilot.

This happened just a few miles from where I grew up, just north of Farmville Iowa.  Call it an unfortunate claim to fame for us.  The crash happened just north of the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake where they had just performed.

Fast forward 56 years later, they are considering re-opening the investigation.

Experts believe this is likely due to the fact that there is just so much legacy involved with these performers.

So what will opening a 56 year old case accomplish?  Some believe it would be a very painful experience for the family and the fans.

The National Transportation Safety Board says they have no plans to re-open the case.
