Kane Buss, the Oneida teen killed in a tragic car accident, was remembered this weekend. After he was laid to rest, the community came together for a lantern ceremony.

Kane's girlfriend, Amanda Pawlikowski stood with his mother Claudette, as lanterns were released, to light the way. She shared the beautiful moment on social media with the message 'Momma 2 and I will forever be looking up for you. Fly high my love ‪#‎KB31‬ ‪#‎iloveyou‬ ‪#‎bb

The touching moments over the past week have been captured by Jennifer Peters, who called Kane another son. She was asked by the Buss family to take pictures so they could remember the special moments during such a difficult time. After some hesitation Peters realized, 'The greatest gift I could give the Buss family was helping them to some day be able to look back at all the amazing honors bestowed to Kane and to help them remember just what a dramatic impact he had on the entire community around them.'

Kane's dream was to protect and serve his community. His last act of heroism was shielding his girlfriend from the crash impact, saving her life. To keep his dream alive, he was made an honorary police officer and given a full police escort to his final resting place.

Peters, like most of the community, won't be the same with Kane gone, but they all know his spirit remains. 'This amazing young man entered my life 8 years ago and I was literally changed forever. I have had the great pleasure in capturing some truly wonderful days in his life these past few years from senior year, to various proms, formal dinner dances, and graduation. I had looked forward to college graduation pictures and pictures from the police academy. Though that will never happen, at least I have all of these to share with family and friends. We love and miss you Kane Buss. Your smile, your strength, you dedication and your heart will always remain. Keep looking down on all of us.'
