Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum and Ryan Gosling All Interested in ‘Ghostbusters’ Role
The current plan for the next ‘Ghostbusters’ film is the all-female reboot, which will be directed by Paul Feig (‘Bridesmaids’). We’ve heard that Feig has spoke with Jennifer Lawrence (who would make a great Venkman, BTW), Emma Stone and Rebel Wilson about parts in the film and it seems like a very exciting cast is coming together. So…what’s this talk of Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt and Ryan Gosling wanting to star in a ‘Ghostbusters’ movie?
This gets a little complicated, but we’ll do our best to describe it…
There IS one major part in Feig’s all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ movie for a male actor and The Daily Beast is reporting that Ryan Gosling is very interested. Sony had apparently offered up a number of projects (including ‘Jobs’ and ‘Sinister Six’), but the only project Gosling sparked to with any real interest was the ‘Ghostbusters’ movie. A ‘Ghostbusters’ movie starring Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is something that would surely have Sony execs thrilled, assuming Feig could pull off bringing all those stars together.
Speaking of stars, where do Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt fit into all of this? That’s where things get interesting.
Back in August, Tatum pitched Sony on a version of ‘Ghostbusters’ on a version of the film that he would star in, alongside Chris Pratt, and produced by Joe and Anthony Russo (‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’). Tatum and Pratt, co-stars of the 2002 movie ‘10 Years’ who’ve stayed friends in the years since, have been looking for a project to star in together (though at the time of the discussion, Tatum hadn’t yet approached Pratt about the possibility of the role). Now, this is NOT the same movie as the Paul Feig version. In fact, Tatum pitched his version to Sony while the studio was in negotiations with Feig to direct based on his pitch with Katie Dippold (Feig was announced on August 2 and Tatum spoke to Sony on August 21).
It would seem that these two versions of ‘Ghostbusters’ could not co-exist. Or, could they not? Joe Russo (who will be working with his brother on ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and unavailable to direct) told Sony that he’s friends with Paul and would be open to Paul directing their film as well, essentially having Feig develop both films at the same time.
But, is the world ready for two ‘Ghostbusters’ reboots? We’re unsure if the world is even ready for one. It seems unlikely that Sony would spend all that money on Feig’s female ‘Ghostbusters’ film and then follow that up but completely rebooting it again. The idea behind Feig’s vision was to start a new franchise, not as just a one-off gender-swapping lark.
If you had a vote, which would you choose? A Jennifer Lawrence-Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling ‘Ghostbusters’ or a Channing Tatum-Chris Pratt ‘Ghostbusters’? It seems like an insane question to even ask, but it’s a very real decision. (It should be noted, that as these discussions took place in August, a decision may have already been made at this point. And considering we’ve heard nothing further of Tatum and Pratt’s involvement, it’s possible these discussions went nowhere significant.)
