Chobani Will Raise Its Minimum Hourly Wage To $15

Upstate New York's favorite greek yogurt company Chobani will raise its minimum hourly wage starting in the first quarter of 2021.

Syracuse.com reports that the wage will be increased from $13 to $15. This increase will impact hourly employees at Chobani’s headquarters in Norwich, and at its Greek yogurt plants in South Edmeston, New York, and in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Employees already making more than $15 an hour will see their pay increase by comparable amounts. As a result of the increase, Chobani’s average hourly rate at the facilities will be about $19 an hour.

“This moment of uncertainty is a call for us to join together to strengthen communities and support those working tirelessly to make the food on the tables of families across America," said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani. “Businesses should serve the people and communities in which they operate. Raising our base starting salary is the right thing to do and we hope other businesses, particularly food manufacturers, feel the same as we all work toward rebuilding our country.”

Around seventy percent of the 1,100 people Chobani employs in South Edmeston and Norwich, and the 1,000 it employs in Twin Falls are paid hourly.
