Many people across the United States, and here in central New York, have fallen on hard times because of the coronavirus pandemic. Redeemer Church is continuing to serve the central New York community with another opportunity for Mohawk Valley residents to pick up free food items.

The church based out of Rome is holding another free food giveaway today, Thursday, May 28, in Herkimer. Anyone can drop by to pick up free items like vegetables, fruit, and milk. The drive-thru, contact-free giveaway will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all items are gone, at Herkimer High School.

This is the third free food giveaway the Redeemer Church has held since the coronavirus pandemic hit central New York. The church held their second giveaway just two days ago in Rome, providing food for Oneida County residents.

Pastor Mark Schilling said they were able to provide food for over 1,000 families on Tuesday, and hope to help at least another 500 at today's event in Herkimer.  The food giveaways put on with the help of Compassion Coalition.

The past couple of months have been tougher than ever for many families throughout the central New York community. A large number of people are out of work and having to provide on food banks, so food giveaways like these help bridge the gap and ease the load on local non-profits.
