CDC: Avoid Shouting and Cheering During Super Bowl, Clap Instead
No cheering or shouting during the Super Bowl? That's the latest suggestion from the Center for Disease Control.
The CDC says the safest way to enjoy the Super Bowl during the coronavirus pandemic is to host a virtual watch party this year. "Gathering virtually or with the people you live with is the safest way to celebrate the Super Bowl this year. If you do have a small gathering with people who don’t live with you, outdoors is safer than indoors."
Outdoor Super Bowl parties won't work in central New York or anywhere else in the northeast. Especially after the latest winter storm dumped snow in feet. That is, unless you're planning to build snow chairs and wear parkas and that doesn't sound like too much fun. It sounds too cold!
If you do have guests over, the CDC says everyone should wear masks, whether your inside or out. Guests should sit at least 6 feet away and avoid shouting, cheering loudly, or singing. "Clap, stomp your feet, or bring hand-held noisemakers instead."
The game day snacks everyone lays out needs to be altered this year too. "Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, utensils, and condiment packets," suggests the CDC.
How will you be enjoying the Super Bowl this year? Outside with a projector. Inside with guests wearing masks, sitting six feet apart. Or with just you and your loved ones so you can shout as loud as you want.
