Carly Simon's new memoir 'Boys in the Trees' due out November 24 will answer decade old questions about her love life, marriages, and music. She even reveals who inspired her 70's hit single "You're So Vain."

Carly Simon's new memoir sounds like a fascinating read. She talks about her marriage to James Taylor. She admits she's still in love with him, but he won't speak to her. The 70's power couple struggled with infidelity and Taylor's heroin addiction. The marriage failed but not before having two children. In her interview with People Magazine, she says:

"My incredible loyalty to him, in spite of the fact that he has treated me without any regard, has been so painful to me for so long," she admits. "But, through the course of writing the book, I really started to understand that I could love and not be loved. And that was the big realization for me, that it doesn't have to be a two-way street."

Carly dishes about romances with a few leading men.

  • Warren Beatty
  • Jack Nicholson
  • Mick Jagger
  • Cat Stevens
  • John Travolta

Yes, she spills the beans on who inspired "You're So Vain. " Turns out it's not about James Taylor but Warren Beatty. She says it's only the second verse, but Warren thinks the entire song is about him. She also talks about her inspiration for the songs  "Anticipation" and "We Have No Secrets."

Carly Simon is releasing a special album titled 'Songs of the Trees' that serves as an additional way to look at her stories. It's a puzzle with clues as to what song goes with what story.

Most of these songs are precursors to what eventually became the book. As the narrative only goes up to 1983, there are many songs to follow.

In addition, as you’ll see, there is some cross-pollination in the titles of the book and the album, as in Boys in the Trees and Songs from the Trees, If you feel like playing this puzzle, there are clues of how to cross-reference the songs with the chapters, pages and words. Most of it is pretty clear, but you may get waylaid on a few points: That’s right, you’ll find out that Mick Jagger did not write Mozart’s’ clarinet concerto, and that Jackie Robinson DID indeed do the background vocals to “You’re So Vain” after Benny Goodman left the control booth. Don’t get Orpheus and the Boys in the Trees confused. They are one and the same. We are one and the same.
