NYS lawmakers have passed the bill to ban declawing cats in NYS. It's now up to Governor Cuomo to sign it into law.

Declawing is illegal in most European countries and many U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Burbank, Culver City, Berkley, and San Francisco. Will NY be the first state to ban the practice?

The declawing bill has been on the table for many years and is fiercely opposed by certain veterinary groups stating more cats will be euthanized. If signed into law by Governor Cuomo, several types of declawing surgeries would be banned unless medically necessary. Veterinarians who violate the law would face a $1000 fine.

Declawing is a dangerous, barbaric surgery where a cat’s toe bones and claws are removed. If the same procedure were performed on you, your finger would be amputated at the last knuckle.
