A Plea For Help From Stevens Swan Humane Society
Stevens-Swan Humane Society is in need of a Christmas Miracle, and you could be the one to provide it.
6-year-old Duke (pictured above), has been at Stevens-Swan Humane Society for 4 YEARS!! That's most of his life! To make matters worse, three low grade, cancerous mast cell tumors were recently found on his body. The tumors have been removed, but there is no telling if he will get more, or how much longer he will have. Stevens-Swan says:
Duke has accepted the shelter as his home because that is all he really knows. He has his daily routine, and many people that he loves here that care for him and adore him in return. But, we know that nothing compares to an actual home.
Here's what Duke needs in his new home:
- Be the only pet.
- A quiet, low-key environment.
- No young children.
- The owner must be an experienced dog handler who will understand he's unsure of new people.
Duke is very protective of his kennel area (his “house”), and he will be that way in a home as well. He will need a home that doesn’t have a lot of visitors and someone who understands that he is unsure of new people and can manage the situation. He is so sweet with the people he is comfortable with at the shelter, and he loves to give his paw. Stevens-Swan says:
We know this is a long shot between his restrictions and his medical issues, but we are not ready to give up and want to see Duke spend whatever time he has left in a loving home.
Duke is not in the regular adoption area, so please ask to see him at the front desk. He is neutered, current on vaccines and microchipped. Please call the shelter if you have any questions about Duke at (315)738-4357.
